Never Forget To Take Your Herbal Formulas or Supplements Again

hand full of herbs pillsHerbal formulas (herein referred to as simply “herbs”), vitamins, and supplements can work incredibly well for treating a variety of health conditions when used properly. Keyword there is used properly. All herbs, vitamins, and supplements are designed to work at a therapeutic dosage. Too little, no effect or wrong effect. Too much, side effects or wrong effect. To get good results, it’s essential to be consistent and take your herbs/supplements/vitamins as prescribed! This is especially true for Chinese herbal formulas which need time to build up in your system and have a therapeutic effect on a cellular level (herbal formulas work on DNA!).

5 ways to remember to take your _____ (fill in the blank).

To make things easier, I’m going to use the term herbs from here on out, but this can apply to anything you’re trying to remember to take on a regular basis.

1. Put your herbs in sight.

What do you do every day? Do you brush your teeth, make coffee, cook in the kitchen, or read before bed? Put your herbs there– next to the toothbrush, the coffee maker, the fridge, etc. where you can see them. Bring them to work and set them on your desk where you can stare at them all day.

2. Set an alarm on your phone.

Pretty self-explanatory. Set an alarm 1-3x day depending on how often you need to take your herbs and take them when it goes off. Carry them in your bag/purse/car so they’re always accessible.

3. Get multiple bottles.

If you tend to forget, split up your herbs into 2-3 containers or get 2-3 bottles and keep one at home, one at work, and one in your car. No excuses, they’re gonna be where you are.

4. Write reminder notes.

If you’re more old school, use a neon-colored post-it and write yourself a “take your herbs” reminder. Stick it on the fridge, coffee pot, front door, steering wheel, desk, etc. I’m also a big fan of using a dry erase marker on the bathroom mirror for morning reminders. Hard to miss!

5. Remember WHY you’re taking them.

You’ve got herbs because you want to feel better. If you take them as prescribed, you are giving yourself the best chance of feeling better. Most people are experiencing some type of bothersome symptom on a regular basis. When this symptom comes up, that’s a great reminder to take your herbs.

If you’re truly struggling to remember, you need to ask yourself if you’re prioritizing your health. Do you really want to get better? Feeling better can be scary, unfamiliar, and mean you don’t have an excuse anymore. There are all sorts of complex reasons for consciously or subconsciously resisting doing things to help yourself get well. Time for a little reflection.
