The Sugar Diaries: Three week sugar cleanse!
Published on December 3, 2013 by Dr. Caitlin Gordon
Join me for a sugar cleanse. Start today and end December 24th (Merry Christmas Eve!). I am cutting all added and refined sugars, but fruit sugar is allowed in moderation. Contact me for details, recipes, and tips for survival. I will be posting updates as I go.
This is a great time of year to try and avoid the added sugar that inevitably finds its way into our diets around the holidays. It seems like everyone is baking and there are bowls of sugary goodies in every house and store. One reason this is the season that many people get bad colds and flus is that sugar intake is increased. Sugar feeds bacteria, creates inflammation in the body and cripples our immune system. In addition, with colder weather, we tend to drink less water, and our stress levels are increased around the holidays. These things combine to deplete our immune system and leave us susceptible to bugs and viruses. I always seem to get sick right before or on Christmas day, so this year I am trying something different! By drinking lots of water and herbal tea, avoiding all refined and added sugar, and managing my stress, I hope to change the trend and stay healthy this year!
Benefits you will see in 3 weeks:
- clearer skin
- more energy
- regulated appetite
- better sleep
- weight loss- especially abdominal fat
- even moods
- fewer cravings for unhealthy food
- taste buds become more sensitive to natural sweet flavors
- less water retention
- better digestion
- clearer thinking and better focus
- better control over food choices
- stronger immune system
Woohoo! Another way to experience all these benefits is regular acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture is an excellent complementary therapy to any cleanse or detox.
